There are rooms where we feel good from the first moment. The light is soft, the sounds are muted, and everything in the interior seems to be in its place. Textiles often help to create this feeling. Curtains not only beautifully complete the design of the windows - they add warmth to the room, help control light and solar heat, improve acoustics and make you feel more relaxed.
The Swiss textile brand Création Baumann has been thinking about this kind of well-being in a room for 140 years. It is a story that began with linen and careful handwork, but continues with innovative textile solutions for modern homes, offices and public spaces. Times and technologies have changed, but the attitude of the brand has remained unchanged - respect for the material, excellent quality and design, which has not only a beautiful form, but also a meaningful function.
It all started with linen and the work of skilled craftsmen
In 1886, when Création Baumann's path began, linen was at the center - a natural and beautiful material that required patience, precision and skillful hands to process. At the time, textiles were primarily a daily necessity, but from the very beginning it was important for the company to go beyond simply well-made fabric.
The material had to last a long time, be of high quality and thought out down to the details. This attitude became the basis for everything. As people's lifestyles and spaces changed, textiles developed - from a practical fabric, it gradually became one of the strongest creators of interior mood.

Fabric begins to speak the language of design
In the 1950s, housing became bolder, and the fabric no longer remained in the background. Création Baumann's first original designs brought color, texture and rhythm to the interior. Curtains became an opportunity to give a room personality - to make it calmer, more playful or more sophisticated.
In the middle of the 20th century, textiles became an expressive part of interior design.
One of the brightest examples of its time was ASCONA created in 1958. It was more than a beautiful fabric – its versatility opened up new uses and marked an important step in the development of Création Baumann decorative fabrics.

Beautiful appearance and easy everyday life - in one fabric
In the 70s, new threads and production technologies made it possible to look at curtain fabrics in a completely different way. They became more durable, more versatile and easier to maintain. It was no longer necessary to choose between a beautiful fabric and a practical solution - both qualities could meet in one place.
This was perfectly demonstrated by SINFONIA created in 1978. This semi-sheer polyester day curtain fabric looked natural and lightweight, but was easy to care for on a daily basis. SINFONIA became a new measure of quality and still today influences how we imagine a modern, light-transmitting day curtain.
New threads, materials and production technologies expanded the possibilities of curtain fabrics.
Curtains that do more in a room
Today, we expect much more from curtains than a beautiful appearance. Acoustic curtains and panels help to talk and work in the room without disturbing echo. Dense, light-retaining fabrics create peace in the bedroom or allow full use of the presentation room, while sunlight and heat regulating solutions help maintain a more pleasant room climate. With textiles, it is also possible to easily separate zones and create privacy without losing the lightness of the room.
A good example is DIMMER created in 2002 – a dense curtain fabric that combined effective light control with a soft and elegant fall. A technical function no longer had to be hidden. It became a harmonious part of the interior.
Contemporary curtain fabric can be elegant and technically functional at the same time.
The textile of the future is already being created today
For Création Baumann, innovation is not a single loud discovery. It is a continuous work, looking for ways to make rooms more comfortable, more beautiful and kinder to the environment. That's why the latest solutions are becoming smarter, more sustainable and fit more naturally into the architecture.
This thinking is embodied by ABSORBER RECYCLED created in 2025 – a new generation acoustic solution made from recycled materials. It helps to create a more pleasant sound environment in the room and at the same time convinces with a clean, modern design. Functionality, aesthetics and responsible choice of materials work together here.

Each room has its own feeling and its own solution
We long for peace and coziness at home. In the office, it is important to be able to concentrate and have an uninterrupted conversation. In a hotel, school, medical facility or museum, textiles have another task - to create an atmosphere, balance the sound, create privacy or highlight an architectural design.
Therefore, there is no single curtain fabric that is suitable for all rooms. But there is the right solution for every need. And the unifying thing is always the person - the way he feels, works, rests and lives in the room.
Textile solutions help to balance aesthetics, acoustics and comfort of room users in architecture.
